United sign Serbian wonderkid

This summer's transfer business has begun with the purchase of a young goalkeeper from Serbia. One for the future, we suspect.

Ian Walton

Well, we're guessing he's a wonderkid. Everybody seems to be these days. Anyway, Manchester United have announced the signing of Serbian U17 goalkeeper Vanja Milinković, currently attached to Vojvodina in his home country. He will spend next season  with his parent club, before joining United in 2015/16.

Further details are scarce, because he's basically a kid and has no Wikipedia page. That really should be a requirement for any future purchases. We do know that he recently made six appearances for Serbia U17s in the UEFA U17 Championship qualifiers, and kept three clean sheets. A couple of websites reckon he had a trial at United earlier in the season, which presumably went okay.

We also know, thanks to transfermarkt.co.uk, that he was born on February 20 1997 — oh God, oh God, we're all so old — and that he is 2 metres 2 cm tall. That's 6 foot 7. My. Word.

We also know, thanks to Discogs.com, that he is the lead singer of Vrooom, one of Belgrade's premier electro-rock bands. Apparently they merge "cabaret music with the melodies of the Balkans and contemporary rhythms of the West". Which sounds a thoroughly commendable sideline for any young goalkeeper, and we wish them all the best.
