Amid all of the excitement and fervour of watching thrilling pre-World Cup friendlies, we'd barely forgotten that transfer rumours existed. But never fear, because here's a new one to set your hearts aflutter. According to Italian newspaper La Stampa, Manchester United are readying a €25 million bid for Barcelona's Chilean winger Alexis Sánchez; a report now regurgitated on several other British sites.

Why would La Stampa be aware of such a deal, you may reasonably ask. Well, La Stampa certainly isn't the most reliable Italian newspaper, but it does have very strong links with Juventus, in that it's published in Turin and owned by Fiat. With Juve having been strongly linked with the Chilean for quite a while, they may well be hot on all things Sánchez. Either that, or they're just making it up.

Certainly this third of TBB hopes they aren't, as Sánchez would be a brilliant signing for United. He'd certainly have to arrive in partnership with a central midfielder or two to really help turn us around, but with Antonio Valencia having struggled on the right for a couple of seasons, it'd be great to have a world class replacement. Plus, he'd easily slot into the right side of Louis van Gaal's 4-3-3. Make it happen, Ed.
