Louis van Gaal had kind words for Wayne Rooney, who scored once, failed to outpace Phil Jagielka on another occasion, and in one spell he gave the ball away five times in five minutes. All accounts from spectators sent to me say that he was his usual terrible self. Van Gaal can't see it - at this point both of these people need to leave the club if this situation continues. This isn't a charity. The quotes are in the Guardian.

On ESPNFC, Thomas Muller has explained that he has a four-year contract, is happy at Bayern Munich, and a transfer to Manchester United is still not up for discussion. Expect Ed Woodward to take this as a come-and-get-me please.

The Mirror includes a Daily Start rumour in its round-up that Saido Berahino could be a January target for Manchester United. He is a United fan, and is clearly a superior player to Rooney at the moment. He would be eligible for the second half of the Champions League, too, should he qualify.

Jim White has written a Rooney hagiography in the Telegraph, not sure why.

Ander Herrera, one of the excellent Spaniards at United, correctly identified that the club will have to improve on the weekend's performance if they want to actually win the league. His lack of hubris, and his realism, is something some people would do well to learn from. That's in the Manchester Evening News.

And I wrote about Louis van Gaal's tactics, amongst other things, for Yahoo here.
