Juan Mata replaces Jesse Lingard in Manchester United's team to face Manchester City in the Premier League, as Louis van Gaal makes just one change for the side that will contest the derby.

Antonio Valencia keeps his place at right-back despite a woefully inadequate showing against CSKA in Moscow. Similarly, Marcos Rojo, who left plenty of space behind him and was a far worse performer than substitute Daley Blind, begins at left-back.

Blind and Matteo Darmian are on the bench, as is Memphis.

Wayne Rooney, captaining the side, inexplicably keeps his place in attack, so Manchester United are essentially starting the game down to 10 men by choice. Van Gaal has picked his best three midfielders, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera, to fill the middle of the pitch and give support to the attackers, who are made up by Anthony Martial on the left wing.
