Manchester United and Manchester City played out a goalless draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League, but it was the home side who finished strongest and had the best chances to win the match.

Chris Smalling went close for United when he shot from Marouane Fellaini's knock down from a free kick, but Smalling's shot was turned away by an excellent Joe Hart save at the near post.

Anthony Martial also had another impressive game, and he almost set up Jesse Lingard for the winner when his left ball, lifted into the box, was also volleyed almost over Hart, but the Manchester City goalkeeper tipped the effort onto the post.

Wayne Rooney had one of his worst games of the season, and ever, for United, as he gave the ball away countless times and could only complete about half of his passes. United will move onto the game against Middlesbrough in confident mood.
