Patrice Evra has spoken of a story that's been doing the rounds for a while now, that before Alex Ferguson retired, he was 99% certain that Cristiano Ronaldo was on his way back to Manchester United. Clearly, David Moyes didn't have quite the same pull as Ferguson, and the move never happened. That's in the Mirror.

As is the story that United are chasing Youri Tielemans, the young Anderlecht (that's my guess, anyway) midfielder, who is also wanted by Manchester City. Here's the link to that story.

In the Mail, there's a story that Wayne Rooney failed to have a single touch in the Crystal Palace box. That is obviously partly to do with United's tedious approach to attacking, which is Louis van Gaal's fault, but also reminds us that he is totally finished and needs to be replaced.

The terrible Harry Redknapp has said that he wouldn't drop Rooney, which only reinforces the argument that Rooney should be dropped. Redknapp is a serially wrong man, when it comes to English players. That's in the Telegraph, who should know better.

In the Manchester Evening News, there are quotes from Van Gaal saying that he considers Marouane Fellaini a midfielder, not a striker, having previously said something that hinted otherwise in the summer. Ah well, managers can say what they like, it doesn't have to be the truth, but it helps justify untruths if the team actually wins.
