Manchester United briefly went top of the Premier League table with a late 2-1 win over Watford in the Premier League. Leicester leapfrogged them with a win away to Newcastle United, but United are now the form side of the traditional challengers for trophies in England.
Untied took an early lead when Ander Herrera's cross from deep was skilfully side-footed past Heurelho Gomes in the Watford goal, and United appeared in control and likely to take an easy victory.
However, injuries to Herrera and Phil Jones, and a move to a 3-5-2 from the starting 4-2-3-1 formation meant United lost focus and control. Marcos Rojo conceded a soft penalty with only a few minutes remaining, allowing Troy Deeney to convert from the spot.
On the stroke of the end of normal time Gomes parried a shot from Jesse Lingard into the path of Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose shot from an acute angle was carried over the line by a sliding Deeney.
