Louis van Gaal says that he still trusts Wayne Rooney, and he's in more credit than the rest of the side. That's partly because he's captain, which is understandable, but is also totally wrong as he is a pox on the team, holding Anthony Martial and others back. That's in the Manchester Evening News.

In the Mirror, there's a story that United are interested in Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez. There's little to suggest United shouldn't buy him. He's exciting, creative and score goals. The problem is, presumably, that those are all qualities that the current manager appears to loathe.

In the Telegraph, United are linked with Mahrez again, but as well as that, there's a rekindling of the Alex Pato rumours. Well - and this has become a familiar refrain - he can't be worse than Rooney.

Morgan Schneiderlin didn't train ahead of the match with CSKA. The options open to Van Gaal are Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Andreas Pereira and Ander Herrera. The rest of the side is settled, so Herrera should be kept where he is. Expect Fellaini to be picked, or possibly Carrick - which would lead to United being overrun. This news is in the Guardian.
