Bastian Schweinsteiger given three-game violent conduct ban

Manchester United's squad grows thinner by the day.

At this rate, Manchester United will have no players left by the time comes to play Bournemouth on Saturday. On top of the ongoing injury crisis, the Reds will be without midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has been handed a three-game domestic ban by the FA. On their website, they published the following statement by way of explanation:

Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

The Manchester United midfielder was involved in an incident with West Ham United's Winston Reid in the 40th minute of the game on Saturday 5 December 2015.

So not much explanation at all, then.

Fortunately others have painstakingly reviewed the footage so we didn't have to, and have spotted an elbow by the German international on West Ham defender Winston Reid. Referee Mark Clattenburg apparently didn't make mention of the incident in his post-match report, but a panel of three "former elite referees" have decided it warranted a red card and its accompanying suspension. Cometh the hour, cometh the Nick Powell.
