Player ratings: Manchester United 1-2 Norwich City

New, comments

How did Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, and others, rate as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Norwich City?

David de Gea 3

Beaten at his near post by Alexander Tettey - though it was a clever finish - and also dived out of the way for Cameron Jerome's opener. A poor match for De Gea, who has been sliding down from his best performances in the last few weeks. When even De Gea is poor, you know your time is up.

Ashley Young 1

Will cross a lot. Cannot cross well.

Daley Blind 1

Will cross a lot. Cannot cross well.

Chris Smalling 1

A buffoonish, clowning return to his gormless worst. He wasn't helped by the lack of protection given to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum(b) ahead of him.

Phil Jones 1

Michael Carrick 1

Marouane Fellaini 1

Juan Mata 4

Can pass well. Didn't pass well at all. He hinted at being capable of being a special player, and if Jose Mourinho arrives, that's all he will be remembered as. He has to play in a good side, and he's not capable of improving an average one, which is to his discredit.

Anthony Martial 7

Still not totally destroyed by his new side, and showed clever and quick feet for his goal. He still looks in need of a rest, but that might be because the rest of the side is so ponderous and awful around him.

Memphis 5

Continued his slight improvement from his nadir a couple of months ago, but his decision making is still awful - perhaps he's learning from his manager in that respect.

Wayne Rooney 2

Substitutes

Ander Herrera 6

Brought on to play defence as Smalling went up front. I hope he enjoys his next club.
