Louis van Gaal takes charge of Manchester United for what should, but very possibly won't, be his last game as manager of the club.
It had been expected by some that the craven defeats to Norwich City, Bournemouth and Stoke City would seal the manager's fate, especially with Jose Mourinho waiting in the wings, but it appears that Ed Woodward is performing spectacularly badly.
Having met with Van Gaal, who told him that he did not know how to improve the situation and made it clear that the players could no longer succeed with him as manager, Woodward inexplicably asked the manager to carry on. Carry on and do a bad job, Louis, I believe in your ability to miraculously turn it around, being the thrust of his argument.
Guus Hiddink's Chelsea side played reasonably well against Watford, though they were soft at the back and turgid in the middle. Diego Costa was much improved, but was booked for a late tackle and so misses the match. United will probably lose this game, they might draw at best, but the only thing that matters for United now is when Van Gaal goes.
