Wayne Rooney, undroppable captain, crocked his ankle last week against Leicester City and so will miss the weekend's game against West Ham United. From the sounds of things, he might well be missing more than that as well; according to Louis van Gaal, it's "more heavy than we thought and a nasty injury".
Leaving aside the issue of whether Rooney should be playing, it's a sure thing that he would have been, had he been fit, and with Marcos Rojo missing as well, United are going to have to reshuffle things at the front as well as at the back. Phil Jones and Ander Herrera are also still missing, but Jesse Lingard is "coming back".
Anyway, your guess is as good as ours. Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay as a two? Memphis, Martial and Lingard as a three? Marouane Fellaini and Lingard as a classic big-man-little-man duo? In the mean time, have a read of our preview, which describes Rooney as "doubtful". Well called, us.
