For tonight's probably must-win game against VfL Wolfsburg, injuries have forced Louis van Gaal to improvise, and he has responded by leaving Ashley Young on the bench and handing a full debut to 22-year-old Uruguayan rightback Guillermo Varela. It's a big call. Let's hope he knows what he's doing. Van Gaal, that is.
There aren't too many surprises in the rest of the side. Matteo Darmien moves over to the left side of the defence, while the central positions are taken up by Chris Smalling and Daley Blind. The former also takes over the captain's armband in Wayne Rooney's absence.
In midfield, Marouane Fellaini starts ahead of Michael Carrick and will play alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, with Juan Mata further forward in the No. 10 position. Either side of Mata will be Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay, and Anthony Martial will lead the line.
The rest of the bench is mostly kids and doesn't contain a single forward. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Paddy McNair provide cover for the defence, while Nick Powell and Andreas Pereira offer the attacking options. Oh, and David de Gea's in goal. But you knew that.
