United DID make a deadline day signing after all!

Manchester United ROCKED world football with a STUNNING LAST-GASP DEADLINE DAY SWOOP for ... Bolton Wanderers defender Andy Kellett. The 21-year-old -- who spent his time earlier in the season at League Two's Plymouth Argyle -- became the only Reds arrival of deadline day, as Ed Woodward BEAT OFF COMPETITION for the Pilgrims for his signature, and cemented Kellett's place in pub quiz folklore.

At this juncture you're almost certainly asking "uh ... what?" Fortunately, the Daily Mirror have compiled a rather handy explanation-cum-player profile; the crux of which is that United's several reserve departures -- including that of defender Saidy Janko to Bolton -- left United's U-21s a little short of cover. So, at the behest of reserve team manager Warren Joyce, Kellett was snapped up from Wanderers, with him having impressed against United's reserves earlier in the season.

So, there we are; United did make a signing after all!
