Michael Carrick signs contract extension

ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR!

United fans have been waiting all season for one particular contract renewal, and we are delighted to announce that it has finally happened. Yes, Michael Carrick, United's premier smooth-passing, deep-lying, opinion-splittingmidfielder, has signed on for another year of the Van Gaal revolution.

HURRAH! / BOO! [delete as according to taste]

As United's official website reminds us, Carrick has made 376 appearances for the club and scored 23 goals, "most recently netting a technically impressive header during last weekend's 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur". Though he's missed a fair chunk of this season with injury, Van Gaal clearly believes he's got another year in his 33-year-old legs.

Indeed, he might even be staying longer than that. In his big interview yesterday, Van Gaal identified Carrick as "more-or-less" a "trainer-coach". Perhaps there's a future United manager under there somewhere.
