Manchester United have confirmed that Phil Jones has signed a contract extension at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old defender will now stay with United until the summer of 2019, with an option for a further year also included in the deal. Let's hope this is as underwhelming as United contract news gets this summer.

Jones has been at United for four years now, yet still doesn't look like the sort of world class talent that will win Champions Leagues. Not many players do look that good, but then again, not many 19 year old defenders cost £16.5 million.
We've reached the stage where Jones' versatility is less an asset and more a euphemism for tactical indiscipline, and he needs to improve if he's going to hold down a first-team place through the next few seasons.
