According to Bild, a fairly reliable German newspaper, Manchester United have successfully negotiated a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
A move to United had been rumoured for several weeks as Louis van Gaal looked to strengthen his midfield. Schweinsteiger has struggled with injuries last season but is regarded as a midfielder to take responsibility away from just Michael Carrick at Old Trafford, and who can bring experience and quality.
United have again qualified for the Champions League after a year out of the competition following a disastrous spell under David Moyes, and are in the middle of overhauling and reinforcing their squad.
Matteo Darmian is due to join Memphis Depay as a new signing, and Morgan Schneiderlin may be another midfield transfer, as United negotiate with Southampton. With Luis Nani, Robin van Persie and Rafael all in various stages of leaving the club, it was essential new, better players were brought in.
