After two years of poor form and injury, and one half-season of ridiculously calm and efficient dispatching of chance after chance after chance, Robin van Persie has apparently joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United.

Fenerbahce chairman Aziz Yildirim confirmed the move, saying the transfer 'is done'.

Van Persie will be fondly remembered by United fans for his essential part in reclaiming the Premier League title in the 2012/13 season, scoring 30 goals in 48 appearances after joining from Arsenal. His following two seasons combined  brought only 28 goals as injuries, poor form and a rubbish team cut down his chances drastically.

While Louis van Gaal talked up Memphis Depay's ability as a striker yesterday, United are expected to move in the transfer market to replace Van Persie with a senior striker.
