Argentina midfielder Angel Di Maria, who has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, but looks set to stay in Manchester for at least another season, was taken off injured in the Copa America final against Chile.
After just 25 minutes he appeared to injure his hamstring and was substituted, leaving the pitch in tears. It has been a frustrating 2015 for Di Maria, and this exacerbates his problems at United. If the injury requires more than a few weeks off training, it means he will miss the bulk of pre-season training with his club side. And, should he wish to leave, any injury to his hamstring might prevent or hinder a move away. It is not yet clear how severe the injury is. You can read the Daily Mail's report on it here.
Elsewhere, there's a story in the Mirror that Luke Shaw has come back to pre-season training having lost three kilos. Shaw was prevented from going to the Under-21 European Championships due to Louis van Gaal not believing he was physically capable of more competitive football last season, and he has long held concerns about his general fitness. It appears this may have been rectified to some degree.
More generally, Van Gaal will be introducing some double sessions in early pre-season training to get his players up to speed. You can read about that, also in the Mirror, here.
