In the Mirror, Jasper Cillessen has said that he plans to spend this season playing for Ajax, as a move to Manchester United remains only speculation. That suggests that David de Gea could spend the next season at Old Trafford before moving to Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2016.
De Gea had been expected to join Real Madrid this season, but no bids have been made by the Spanish side, and the proposed transfer for Sergio Ramos appears to have held up any move until next year.
De Gea is not in the squad for the game against Club Brugge tonight, and has yet to feature in a matchday squad for Manchester United in 2015/16, but he is expected to be reintegrated into the side as the distraction of a possible move before deadline day starts to fade.
Cillessen, Ajax's player of the year last year, is expected to be the replacement in the event of De Gea's departure, but he is, at the very least, keeping his trap shut over any contact:
"As far as I know it has never been a thing.
"I, the club, or my agent have never heard anything. As for me, this season begins and ends at Ajax.
