Louis van Gaal has been given the chance to test out some squad players and younger United prospects in the League Cup against Championship side Ipswich Town.
Ipswich, managed by Mick McCarthy, are one of the best teams in the Championship, and lost to Norwich City in the play-offs, so could prove a stern test. Van Gaal will not want a repeat on last year's only game in the League Cup, when a side featuring Shinji Kagawa, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, and Anderson managed to lose 4-0 to MK Dons.
Players like Andreas Pereira, James Wilson, Sam Johnstone, Guillermo Varela and Jesse Lingard could expect to feature against the side, with unused first-teamers like Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia could make up the numbers and bulk out the side.
United will consider themselves favourites, but only if they approach the game with a better attitude than they did against MK Dons last year.
