Javier Hernandez failed to convinced Louis van Gaal that he was a striker worth having around last season, and along with Danny Welbeck, left the club. Hernandez left for Real Madrid on loan, though, and returned in the summer. Real didn't want to complete a transfer with him, though he had performed acceptably throughout the season, and finished it with several strong performances.
He did, though, look set to leave Old Trafford for good this season, and while that still might happen, it seems that Van Gaal has accepted the possibility that he will be United's second striker, and without Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie to turn to, he has made some substitute appearances, and his movement has looked far better than other United forwards.
Against Club Brugge last night, he was given the chance to convert a penalty against Club Brugge, but took the John Terry way out. Van Gaal and Ryan Giggs were not entirely amused.
