One thing you have to credit Ed Woodward with: he absolutely refuses to learn a single thing. Look at two stories from the Mirror.

After a summer of dithering and waiting for Gareth Bale, he has indentified... Gareth Bale as a target!

After a summer of weighing up a move for Cristiano Ronaldo and not paying the asking price, he has identified... Cristiano Ronaldo as a target!

After not paying the required fee for Marcos Reus last week, they have decided that instead of buying him, they have identified... Marco Reus as a target!*

*And Matt Ritchie of Bournemouth.

Both of these stories are in the Mirror/People.

Paul Wilson speculates about David de Gea in the Observer. There's no reason to believe anything he speculates on, so let's move swiftly on.

Oh, God. The Bale thing is in the Telegraph too. This is Woodward's doing. He's briefed! He's briefed again! Anyway, also in the Telegraph is Jason Burt explaining how Woodward's strategy failed.

Lastly, a couple of days ago I explained in Paste Magazine how Manchester United's transfer strategy failed. You can read that here.
