An experienced (though not necessarily strong) Manchester United team will take to the field against Sheffield United in less than an hour, as Louis van Gaal's side get their FA Cup campaign underway. The Dutchman was expected to recall Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard, though both have been made to settle for a place on the bench.
Bastian Schweinstieger, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini make up the centre of midfield, with Juan Mata and Anthony Martial flanking Wayne Rooney.
As expected, the injured Phil Jones has been omitted completely, while Ashley Young, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick are all being rested after being pushed into the "red zone" by recent fixture congestion. Striker Will Keane makes the bench after being recalled from a prolific loan spell at Preston, where he scored once in 20 appearances. Ah.
Manchester United: David de Gea; Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Daley Blind, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian; Ander Herrera, Bastian Schweinsteiger; Anthony Martial, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata; Wayne Rooney.
Subs: Sergio Romero, Paddy McNair, Guillermo Varela, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Memphis Depay, Will Keane.
