Manchester United outcast Memphis could be on his way to Germany, according to a report in Bild via the Mirror. The 22-year-old Dutch international has failed to impress José Mourinho so far this season, and has played a combined total of 12 minutes of Premier League football. As a result, Wolfsburg believe themselves to be in with a good chance of luring him to the Bundesliga, with United ready to cut their losses on last summer’s £25 million signing.
It would certainly be a pity to see Memphis depart so soon: for all of his inconsistent and frustrating performances, there’s clearly a very good player lurking in there somewhere. However, with United now having plenty of options in attack, he’s doubtless going to struggle for game time at a crucial moment in his young career. If he continues to miss the chance to impress, it’s hard to see him lasting much longer at Old Trafford.
