Following the 1-0 victory against Zorya Luhansk in the second fixture of the Europa Leaue group stage, Manchester United will be hoping for a convincing win over Fenerbahçe tonight.
Meanwhile, tonight’s visitors picked up an important result in their last outing in this competition: a 1-0 win against Feyenoord through an early goal from Emmanuel Emenike. With Fenerbahçe currently top of Group A, they'll be aiming to spring an upset at Old Trafford.
Here are three players from the Turkish side to keep an eye on...
Simon Kjaer
At the back, Simon Kjaer is recognised as the Fener’s best defender. He is very physical, strong in the air and known for being a ball-playing centre-back.
Kjaer is a tough tackler and plays an important role in building the side's attack from the back, possessing exceptional vision and the ability to execute accurate long passes. Also, the Danish international enjoys taking free-kicks, having scored two for Fenerbahçe in recent weeks.
Jose Mourinho mentioned that he will field a strong team tonight; it would not be a surprise to see either Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Wayne Rooney used as the lone striker. Kjaer could be taking part in an exciting battle that could decide the result of the game.
Mehmet Topal
In front of Fenerbahçe's defence, Topal will be providing protection to the back four and attempting to prevent the Red Devils from creating chances.
The 30-year-old, who is known as Orumcek (spider) because of his ability to use his long legs to win loose balls or break play, is regarded as the key man for the away side in midfield. Topal is dominant inaerial duels and recovers the ball well, but the Turkish international lacks the creativity to set his side off on counter-attacks.
Whoever plays in the central attacking midfield role for United will be in for a physical battle with Topal.
Emmanuel Emenike
With Fenerbahçe playing a lot of long balls due to their creative shortcomings, Emenike will be a dangerous target man for the Turkish side.
Despite having a disappointing loan spell with West Ham United last season, the Nigerian international has been on good form so far this term. Currently on two league goals and two assists for Fener, Emenike boasts impressive speed as well as the dribbling skills to create chances for himself.
Emenike is expected to play as the lone frontman tonight. With his physical attributes, it won't be a problem for him to lead the line, as he stands at just over six feet tall and enjoys an aerial battle with his opponents. Chris Smalling could be in for an interesting duel with Emenike, which may determine the outcome of the match.
