We brought you the news earlier today that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had made the 30-man shortlist of Ballon d’Or nominees.
With the final batch of names now confirmed, there is another Manchester United star in contention for this year’s award: Paul Pogba.
The £89 million summer signing has shown glimpses of his immense talent upon his Old Trafford return but has thus far failed to reach a consistently high level of performance.
But thanks largely to his role in helping Juventus claim a fifth straight Serie A title last season, the 23-year-old Frenchman has made the list of hopefuls for the 2016 Ballon d’Or alongside the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Robert Lewandowski, Riyad Mahrez and previous winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The award is voted on by assembled members of the European press, with France Football magazine overseeing the ballot.
The 30 contenders have been announced five at a time throughout today. The full list has now been confirmed and Ibrahimovic and Pogba are United’s only representatives.
The number of nominees will be whittled down to a final three later in the year, with the winner announced in January 2017.
