Juan Mata will captain Manchester United against Burnley at Old Trafford this afternoon, with Chris Smalling missing out and Wayne Rooney on the bench.

Marcos Rojo, who impressed in the midweek EFL Cup win over Manchester City, retains his place, while Matteo Darmian starts at right-back in place of Antonio Valencia.

Paul Pogba is once again partnered by Ander Herrera in central midfield, with Mata, Jesse Lingard and Rashford supporing Zlatan Ibrahimovic further forward.

Henrikh Mkhiataryan was rumoured to be in contention to make the bench today but the Armenian has once again been left out of the matchday squad.

Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Memphis Depay are among United’s substitutes.

Burnley start with two former Red Devils in their line-up in the shape of goalkeeper Tom Heaton and defender Michael Keane.
