Manchester United manager José Mourinho has questioned the Premier League’s distribution of festive fixtures. He has noted that United’s schedule is more congested than that of league leaders Chelsea, claiming that “the fixtures are chosen to give some rest for some and create problems for others.”
The Guardian provide the quote in full:
“The busy period is for some clubs not for everyone because you analyse there is no congestion for them. The fixtures are chosen to give some rest for some and create problems for others but we are used to it because we are in the Europa League, which creates more difficulties, we know that, so it is just more of the same.”
United take on Sunderland on Boxing Day and Middlesbrough on New Year's Eve — Chelsea are in action at the same time against Bournemouth and Stoke City. However, while United have only a couple of days to sleep off their celebrations before clashing with West Ham, Chelsea have four before their next match against Tottenham Hotspur.
