José Mourinho will be hoping that his Manchester United side can carry the momentum gained from Wednesday’s 4-1 demolition of West Ham United into Goodison Park on Sunday, as they prepare to take on Everton in the Premier League.
Anthony Martial overcame a recent spell of poor form to score a brace against the Hammers, and generally put in the kind of performance that we haven’t seen from him since last season. The 20-year-old Frenchman tends to perform well against Everton, having starred in last term’s 3-0 win on Merseyside and scored a brilliant solo goal to seal a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win at Wembley back in April, so he’ll be hoping to get the chance to start.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan will also be hopeful of being named in Mourinho’s line-up. The Armenia has been an outcast for most of the season, but has starred in emphatic wins over Feyenoord and West Ham recently.
Ronald Koeman’s men sit one place and one point behind United in the Premier League table in seventh, and have struggled to find their best form of late after a solid start to the campaign.
If the Red Devils can recreate the kind of performance that saw off West Ham at Old Trafford earlier this week, they’ll be confident of getting a positive result.
Although they’ll have to do it without captain Wayne Rooney. The 31-year-old has impressed in recent outings after being subjected to widespread criticism in the opening weeks of the campaign. But a yellow card picked up in midweek means he’ll be suspended for the trip to his former club.
