Manchester United attacker Memphis could be set for a move to AS Roma, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport. The Rome daily are reporting that the Giallorossi have long admired the 22-year-old Dutchman, and had resolved to make a move even before their star winger Mohamed Salah sustained an ankle injury that will keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
There had been some hope among United supporters that José Mourinho's arrival would kickstart Memphis’ Old Trafford career, given the Portuguese tactician’s penchant for goalscoring wingers. However, Depay has played just 20 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, and it looks like the club are ready to cut their losses.
Serie A would probably be a good option for Depay to find his best form, with wingers like Salah having excelled after struggling in the Premier League. Though it’s impossible to say whether there really is fire beneath the smoke, this is a transfer rumour that certainly makes some sense.
