Manchester United’s 2016 will come to a close at home to newly-promoted Middlesbrough on Saturday, with José Mourinho going head-to-head with his former assistant Aitor Karanka. The Basque coach led Boro to Premier League promotion last season, and has them sitting four points and three places above the drop zone as we reach the midway point in the season.
United, meanwhile, will hope to close the gap on the top four; heading into this encounter it stands at just four points. They could still be without Luke Shaw, Wayne Rooney and Eric Bailly, who all face late fitness tests. Boro defender Antonio Barragán is their only confirmed absentee: the former Valencia man is sidelined through suspension.
