Marouane Fellaini, remember how terrible he is? Of course you do, he's very terrible. So get ready for an unwarranted and gratuitous reminder of just how bad Fellaini is, as Louis van Gaal has picked him for Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League against Liverpool. A late injury to Ander Herrera is on the bench.
David de Gea starts in goal, and Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Guillermo Varela - replacing Matteo Darmian - make up the back four. Morgan Schneiderlin and Fellaini are at the base of midfield. Memphis, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial start behind Marcus Rashford in attack, as Jesse Lingard is suspended.
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick are also superior options to Fellaini, but will probably only have short, if any, roles to play tonight.
