Manchester United are off to sunny West Bromwich this afternoon, and Louis van Gaal -- perhaps with one eye on Thursday's Europa League tie against Liverpool -- has tweaked his first team.
In defence, Chris Smalling returns and will partner Daley Blind in the middle. Matteo Darmian replace Guillermo Varela at rightback, and Marcos Rojo continues on the other side. David de Gea continues in goal, thank all that is good and pure in this world.
In midfield, Morgan Schneiderlin drops to the bench and is replaced by Michael Carrick, who will wear the armband. He's joined in the middle by Ander Herrera. Ahead of them, Jesse Lingard replaces Memphis Depay and will play on the right, with Juan Mata and Anthony Martial for attacking company. Marcus Rashford starts his third game in a row.
On the bench, keeping Sergio Romero company, are Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Varela, Schneiderlin, Memphis, James Weir and the returning Marouane Fellaini.
Starting XI: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Carrick, Herrera, Martial, Mata, Lingard, Rashford
Subs: Romero, Fosu-Mensah, Varela, Schneiderlin, Memphis, Weir, Fellaini
