Louis van Gaal has revealed that Ander Herrera could miss Saturday's Premier League encounter with the Premier League's basement side Aston Villa, with the Spaniard having picked up a "heavy knock" in the midweek FA Cup win over West Ham United. It doesn't seem like it's anything more than a fairly minor problem, though van Gaal has suggested the turnaround will be too quick for Herrera to feature.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for captain Wayne Rooney, who will continue his return from injury with a few more minutes in this match. Quoted on United's official website, van Gaal said: "Yes, I think he shall receive more minutes but it's always dependable on the game. You cannot say in advance that I give you 20 minutes or something like that; when it's possible, I shall do that because we need Wayne in the team."
Finally, van Gaal confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger is unlikely to play for Manchester United again this season, though he notably suggested he'd be ready for "next season". Given that no one ever suggested Schweinsteiger's injury was sufficiently serious that he wouldn't be ready by August, that seems a rather deliberate comment on the German's future in light of recent rumours linking him with a swift Old Trafford exit.
