It’s officially official: Zlatan Ibrahimović is a Manchester United player. The club confirmed the signing on their official website, though have not revealed any contractual details. It is expected that the 34-year-old former Swedish international will join on an initial one-year deal, albeit with an option for an extension.

It’s easy to play it cool, especially as Zlatan and Sweden had a disappointing European Championships, failing to make it out of the knockout stages. However, now we’ve actually got official confirmation, we must admit we’re quite excited. Despite his age, Zlatan is a bona fide global superstar, and whatever happens next season, it should be fun.

There’s also no reason that he can’t contribute. He arrives with a pretty clean injury record, and his game is built more on technical skill and physical stature rather than raw speed, meaning he still has much to offer coach José Mourinho. Let the season commence ...
