Manchester United confirm squad for preseason tour of China

China's Manchester United fans will not get the chance to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Having strolled past Wigan on Saturday afternoon, Manchester United's preseason preparations continue with a two-game mini-tour of China, and today the squad has been announced.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not travelled, but it was always likely that United would grant the venerable Swede a couple of extra weeks rest after Euro 2016. That brand doesn't maintain itself. Also keeping their feet up are fellow Euro adventurers Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial and Bastian Schweinsteiger. However, the absence of James Wilson is perhaps more notable. The 20-year-old started against Wigan, though only played 45 largely unremarkable minutes. Perhaps a transfer beckons.

Other than that, it's largely as you'd expect. No place for Guillermo Varela or Tyler Blackett, but nice to see a decent representation from the Academy; we make it nine players from the youth system in total, including the exceptionally exciting Axel Tuanzebe. The Manchester Evening News reckon Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is injured.

And the games? United will play Henrikh Mkhitarayan's former team Borussia Dortmund on Friday, before taking on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on Monday.

Full squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Phil Jones, Paddy McNair, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Axel Tuanzebe, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Adnan Januzaj, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young, Will Keane, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney
