Suffice to say, Manchester United’s pre-season tour of China hasn’t exactly gone to plan. The Reds followed up a curtain-raising 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund by having to make an unscheduled landing in Tianjin due to bad weather; and now José Mourinho has had to give a spontaneous press conference pitchside at the Olympic Sports Centre in Beijing after the packed room in which the presser was initially planned was deemed too hot and sticky.
There are now fears things could go from bad to worse with the team set to take on Manchester City on a worryingly poor pitch on Monday (12:30 p.m. BST). Mourinho, in what appeared a thinly-veiled barb at the organisation of the International Champions Cup, said: “It is the end and we can almost go home and train in conditions where the players are safe.”
After taking on City, United are next in action in Gothenburg on Saturday.
