Adnan Januzaj isn’t the only highly-rated Manchester United talent who could leave Old Trafford for the North East on loan this summer. That’s because Sunderland’s near neighbours Middlesbrough, newly promoted to the Premier League, have reportedly made enquiries with regard to the possibility of signing Andreas Pereira for the rest of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, Pereira “was one of eight players told they have no immediate future at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho a fortnight ago,” though those reports also suggested that Mourinho thought highly of the Brazilian playmaker, and that any departure would likely be only a temporary one.
For his part, Pereira would reportedly like to stay at Old Trafford and wait for his chance rather than leave on loan — the Mail write that he believes chances will come in United’s various cup competitions, and, one presumes, the Europa League in particular. In this instance, that’s probably fair enough: Boro are pretty well-stocked in the attacking midfield zone, and he’d be second fiddle behind Gastón Ramírez. This is a rumour that doesn’t really make much sense.
