Manchester United take on Everton at Old Trafford tomorrow in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match, and you’ll be able to catch it live on the United Facebook page. It is believed to be a first for an encounter between two Premier League teams, and will be the first time José Mourinho takes charge of United in front of their own supporters.
On the decision to stream the game on Facebook, Rooney has commented:
"I am delighted that through this agreement with Facebook my testimonial game will be streamed globally on both the Wayne Rooney and Manchester United Facebook pages. It will be the first time this will have happened and will hopefully raise awareness of the Foundation and increase donations."
As hinted, the fixture is being used to raise funds for the Wayne Rooney Foundation, and thereon to several other charities. We certainly shouldn’t expect a thrilling contest, but the online openness certainly marks a welcome change to United’s other pre-season fixtures. For TV viewers in the UK, the game will also be shown on BT Sport 1, and kicks off at 8 p.m. BST (3 p.m. ET).
