And to think we all chuckled when Mike Phelan suggested that he should have succeeded Alex Ferguson. Two games into a job widely regarded as hopeless, with the permanent manager having resigned, without a single first-team transfer, and with an injury crisis that borders on the sadistic, and Hull City have six points and sit neatly in the Champions League positions.
Even more shockingly, the Coneman now wears trousers.
Early days, of course, and Manchester United have also looked pretty good this season. Presumably we'll see Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba continuing in the first team, which still sounds like ridiculously good fun. Perhaps the most interesting selection decision will come at the back: will Jose Mourinho continue with the so-far-effective partnership of Eric Bailly and Daley Blind, or does Chris Smalling come back into the side at the expense of one or other, presumably the latter. We'd be tempted to stick with what's working, but then we know nothing much about anything.
