RUMOUR: United chasing highly-rated Sheffield United youngster

Apparently Dominic Calvert-Lewin is attracting glances from Manchester United's hierarchy.

It's a barren featureless desert out there in Rumourland today, and no, we don't just have the map upside down. But an oasis of hope comes in the shape of 19-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who plays for Sheffield United but who was mysteriously omitted from their squad last night.

According to the Daily Mirror, that mysterious omission can be explained by interest from Manchester United and Everton. Apparently:

Calvert-Lewin impressed on loan at Northampton last season, scoring five times in 20 games for the club. It is thought a bid worth over £1million could tempt the League One side into selling a youngster who has made 11 appearances for them.

The Mirror also note that Everton think they can "beat" United to "land the exciting prospect", which sounds less positive. But then if he came to United, he'd likely be playing U21 football this season, what with the senior squad having plenty of midfielders to choose from and the kids less so. Maybe that'll be the clincher.
