Manchester United will travel to Rotterdam to take on Feyenoord in the Europa League groupe stage opening game tonight.
The last time the Red Devils played at De Kuip stadium was on 5 November 1997, in a Champions League clash.
Two weeks earlier, United had beaten the Dutch side 2-1 at Old Trafford, with goals from Paul Scholes and Denis Irwin, so De club aan de Maas were out for revenge.
But Alex Ferguson’s men ran out 3-1 winners thanks to an Andy Cole hat-trick, while current Feyenoord boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst lined up in midfield for the home team.
The game was marred somewhat by violent clashes between the two rival sets of fans, but the result helped United finish top of the group - which also included Juventus and Kosice — to progress to the knockout stages of that season’s competition, where they would eventually be eliminated by AS Monaco.
