The transfer window is HAPPENING, people. It is LIVE. It is ON. It has caught fire and is SCREAMING THROUGH THE STRATOSPHERE.
Sam Johnstone has joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Not a huge surprise, of course. A few days ago, Mourinho said that he was looking to let Johnstone go because:
he doesn't play one single minute, he needs to play. We have a young goalkeeper in Joel [Pereira], a goalkeeper that played many minutes in the past six months in the Portuguese Premier League and now it's time for Sam to play six months.
Sure enough, back came Pereira from Belenenses, and now out goes Johnstone. It's a much-needed move for the 23-year-old goalkeeper, who has been stuck behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero this season, and hasn't played a single minute of first-team football.
This takes his total number of loan clubs up to a fairly impressive seven: Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End, and now Villa. Useful for pub quizzes? Perhaps. Useful for taking us past our word limit? Definitely. Thanks Sam!
