It hasn’t all been plain sailing, but Manchester United still have a perfect record in this season’s Champions League. That means that José Mourinho’s side head into Tuesday’s encounter with Benfica knowing that a win would guarantee their passage into the knockout stages with two games still to play — a nice position to be in at a time of increasingly severe fixture congestion.
United are still without Zlatan Ibrahimović, Marcos Rojo, Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba, while this game is expected to come too soon for Michael Carrick. Benfica will be without full-back Douglas, on loan from Barcelona, while captain Luisão is suspended after being sent off in the reverse fixture a fortnight ago.
Champions League schedule
As ever, it’s a 19:45 kick-off in the UK, which is 15:45 on the east coast of the USA, and 12:45 on the west.
