Reserves
Manchester United 2-1 Swansea City
It was a break from Premier League 2 action for the reserves this weekend, instead they were in action in the Premier League International Cup against Swansea City. The home match-up favored the reds who came out 2-1 winners with two goals from James Wilson.
Wilson’s first goal came 14 minutes into the second half via the penalty spot after Swansea skipper Joe Rodon handled the ball. Wilson dispatched the penalty past Lewis Thomas to give United a 1-0 lead. His second came eight minutes later, finishing with a fierce drive into the visitor’s goal.
After an impressive second-half performance, the brace from Wilson was no less than what the young reds deserved. The Swans did pull one back just before the final whistle after former United academy product Kenji Gorre, also converted from the penalty spot.
This was United’s first game in the competition, and remain the only unbeaten team in Group D. They return to action once again in the Premier League International Cup after the international break. The reds will look to make it two wins in two against Athletic Club Bilbao; the game is scheduled for Wednesday, 15 Nov.
U-18s
Stoke City 1-0 Manchester United
Kieran McKenna’s side fell to a defeat for the first time since September after a 1-0 loss against Stoke City in the Premier League Cup.
The goal came on the 38th minute mark after Kristoffer Szereto fired an excellent strike into the top corner leaving Fojticek with no chance. United continued to press for an equalizer but could not capitalize after some smart build-up play. Millen Baars believed he had grabbed United’s leveler late on, but the officials declared the ball did not cross the line.
The result leaves all teams in Group F with one win and one loss, all sitting with three points.
United now will have some time off with the international break. Their next opponent is Blackburn in the Premier League North match-up at the Blackburn Training Ground on the 18th November.
