We’ve known for a while that Luke Shaw’s days at Old Trafford are numbered, though a recent report from the Telegraph’s James Ducker suggests he’s not the only one set to be shown the door. Fellow full-backs Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian have both failed to tickle José Mourinho’s fancy, and the Manchester United boss is reportedly open to offers for all three in the upcoming January transfer window.
If true, it wouldn’t come as a massive surprise: both Blind and Darmian are capable rotation options, and useful in their versatility, but neither seem good enough to be regular first-teamers. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young may have turned in a string of fine performances either side of the defence, but they’re both ageing and it’s understandable that Mourinho would want new long-term options. Though Ducker doesn’t seem to have news of any concrete interest on United’s part, he does throw a few names into the hat:
Danny Rose, of Tottenham, Barcelona’s Jordi Alba, and Ricardo Rodriguez, the AC Milan defender, and Celtic’s Kieran Tierney are among the left-backs United have been linked with, along with Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi.
Take your pick.
