Manchester United may have to do without midfield anchorman Nemanja Matić in Saturday’s crunch clash with Arsenal. The Serbian limped off during the midweek win over Watford with what is reportedly a muscular injury, and though he’s not definitely out, he’s unlikely to make it back in time. His absence will certainly come as a blow, with United having no other such defensive midfielder in their squad.
According to the Mirror, Matić has “undergone tests on the affected area,” though United are yet to make any official announcement on his availability. We’ll likely have to wait until José Mourinho’s presser tomorrow before knowing either way. If the Serbian misses out, it will be the first time this league season he’ll miss out on United’s starting lineup.
With Michael Carrick still sidelined, the likelihood is that Ander Herrera will be drafted in to do a job in the centre of midfield. Marouane Fellaini is a slight doubt, though is also expected to feature alongside Paul Pogba.
