There's probably a German word for it: the moment when impending bad news, long suspected, is finally confirmed, and the vague sense of lingering dread crystallises into an actual sensation of sickness. With that in mind, Jose Mourinho has just informed the world that Paul Pogba will not be fit for Thursday nights Manchester derby.
Sake.
The good news is that Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera will both be ready. But Pogba joins Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones on the sidelines. And this doesn't just mean that United will be weaker. It means that Mourinho will have every reason to go even more Mourinho than usual.
We'd be guessing if we said we had any idea what this upcoming Mourinhosity might look like, however. We've already outlined one theory over here, but on the assumption that Rui Faria can't get clearance in time, we'll go with something like ...
De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian; Fellaini, Carrick, Mkhitaryan, Ander Herrera, Lingard; Rashford
... in a 4-2-3-0-0-0-0-0-0-1 formation.
