It has emerged today that FIFA have launched an inquiry into Paul Pogba’s world record transfer from Juventus to Manchester United. From the looks of it, the investigation seems to concern how much money was paid (a veritable f*ck ton) and to whom (anyone seen Mino Raiola lately?).
Football's world governing body has written to the Premier League club "to seek clarification on the deal".
It is believed to concern who was involved in the £89.3m transfer, and how much money was paid to them.
For the most part, United have managed to avoid any appearance of misconduct in the transfer market (with the exception of one hugely suspicious Bebe deal), so this comes as a surprise, even taking into account the eye-watering sums that were reportedly paid to Pogba’s agent at the time. Newly leaked contract details suggest that Raiola stands to make an obscene amount of money from this one transfer: £41m. Crikey.
We’re sure to hear more about this in the coming days, so we’ll keep you updated.
